Mr. & Mrs. Moock
PIZZA PARTY IN ROME - WELCOME PARTY FILM
Before their wedding at Villa Miani, Mr. & Mrs. Moock welcomed their families and friends with an Italian pizza party in a garden above the rooftops of Rome, with the dome of St. Peter’s on the horizon. A hand-painted sign at the entrance read Piazza Moock, and for one evening the garden became a Roman square: market stalls, long tables, music and tambourines. We filmed the whole evening, from the first guests to the last dance under the night sky.

Piazza Moock
Piazza Moock: a Roman square in a garden
The styling was pure Italian summer. A market stall overflowed with tomatoes, braids of garlic, chili peppers and fresh herbs in baskets. Long tables were dressed in red gingham with pots of basil and rosemary, and every table card was a watercolor of a Roman landmark, from the Fori Imperiali to the domes of the center. On flowered plates, the guests found the star of the evening: a pizza Margherita.

Music, tambourines and a view of Rome
Musicians with a guitar and a drum walked among the tables, and the guests answered with tambourines painted with red tomatoes. The bride wore a flowing white dress and the groom a white suit, and they danced between the tables while friends arrived from every country. As the sun went down, the light turned gold on the brick walls of the garden and on the skyline of Rome behind them.

Into the Roman night
When the lights came on, the party only grew louder. The bride was lifted high on a chair above her guests, with the lights of the city behind her, and the dancing went on late into the night. It was the perfect opening to a wedding weekend: relaxed, joyful and unmistakably Italian.

A pizza party for your welcome dinner in Rome
A pizza party is one of our favorite ideas for a welcome dinner in Italy. Guests arriving from abroad meet each other around simple, generous food; the mood is informal, so the wedding day keeps its elegance; and it photographs and films beautifully, with color, music and movement. Plan it for the last hours of daylight, choose a garden or a terrace with a view, bring in musicians who can move among the tables, and think about a theme your guests will remember, like a Roman piazza. For more ideas, read our guide to welcome dinner ideas for a destination wedding in Italy, and see the pizza party at Castello di Celsa in Tuscany.

Mr. & Mrs. Moock’s pizza party in Rome was a celebration of Italy, of friendship and of the city they chose for their wedding, told in a film made to be watched again and shared.
