Il Borro is a medieval hamlet in the Valdarno, between Florence and Arezzo, that the Ferragamo family bought in 1993 and has been restoring ever since. Today it's a village, a wine estate and a hotel all at once: stone houses, vineyards, olive groves and a villa at the top of the hill. We filmed Remy & Toby's Il Borro wedding, designed by Che Chic Wedding.

The first thing you notice is the quiet
Il Borro is surrounded by woods and vineyards, and once you're inside the estate there's nothing modern in sight. No roads, no traffic, just stone, cypresses and the sound of the garden. For a wedding that's a gift: guests slow down without being asked to.
A ceremony around the fountain
The ceremony was set in the Italian garden of the villa. A white aisle wound around a stone fountain dressed with pink roses, between low box hedges, with the guests seated on both sides. Remy walked down the stone staircase from the villa toward it, and from the top of those steps you can see the whole ceremony at once.

The garden is enclosed and fairly intimate, which is lovely for sound and for emotion. With a large guest list, talk to your planner about the layout early, so that nobody ends up watching the vows from behind a hedge.
Filming at Il Borro
For a film, Il Borro gives you movement for free: staircases, terraces, little paths between the stone houses. We built the edit around those walks, so the film moves through the estate with the couple instead of standing still.
There's a moment where Remy is laughing beneath her veil in the middle of the ceremony, flowers all around her. It says more about the day than anything I could write here.

Dinner under the flowers
In the evening the party moved under a canopy of flowers, and the dance floor filled up quickly. Che Chic Wedding have a way of making a big production feel effortless, and at Il Borro every detail held together, from the stationery to the last song.

Planning a wedding at Il Borro
- It's about an hour by car from Florence. Most guests stay on the estate or close by, so book accommodation early.
- A weekend works best when guests can walk everywhere: welcome drinks in the village, ceremony at the villa, dinner in the gardens.
- Work with a planner who knows the estate well. It makes the difference on the day.
- The light in the villa garden is beautiful in the late afternoon. Plan the ceremony around it rather than around lunch.
